Capture buildings from the air with ease

If you are an architect or architectural photographer looking to create a visual record of a building, whether that be through the use of video or still photography, you will understand the need for high resolution distortion-free images.

Controlled perspectives can of course be achieved through the use of perspective control lenses, tilt-shift lenses, processing software and other architectural photography equipment, but while the images may be free of converging lines, they are ultimately always taken from the ground.

Through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones as they are usually called, it is possible to achieve aerial shots of your building which are not only free from perspective issues, but also highlight your building’s most important features in a far more impressive and revealing manner.

Aerial architectural videography and photography can provide a sense of scale which is hard to achieve when shooting from the ground, and also allows you to record how your building interacts with its immediate environment.

Buildings are often surrounded by others nearby, so achieving the desired angle or distance from them can be challenging. Drones provide freedom to move in all directions and can record aerial imagery from hard to reach viewpoints. It is even possible to film or photograph the interiors of buildings with them, as long as there is ample space available.

A few shots from a recent project shot with a DJI Inspire 1 in 4k in Lewes, East Sussex. Simple colour grade in FCP X. The pilot for this project was Paul Gibson, who has a Permission For Aerial Work (PFAW) issued by the CAA, ID no 384.

High resolution 4K images

Our camera drone is coupled with a Panasonic Lumix GH4, which records breathtaking 4K resolution images which have a large depth of field. We also offer the option to shoot in 1080p and at up to 200mbps recording quality, the results at this resolution are even better for grading.

Drone or helicopter

At Drone Air, we offer two aerial platforms: drone or helicopter. Aerial work with drones tends to be faster, more affordable, and can be more precise, but there are certain limitations and restrictions that are imposed by both the platform itself and also the Civil Aviation Authority. For this reason, in certain situations helicopters are a more appropriate solution. If you would like to find out more about the benefits and limitations of each platform, please see Our Aircraft.

Developers and pre-visualisation

If you are a developer, or an architect at the early stages of development, you may want to create an aerial film or photograph of your plot of land in order to assess its position within the local environment, or to provide your client with a pre-visualisation of how the final development will appear once the construction is completed.

If this is the case, please see our Developers or 3D Visualisation pages for more detailed information.

Editing and post-production

If you would like your architectural aerial video or architectural photos to be edited and post-produced, we offer a broadcast quality editing and post-production service. Having worked for clients including the BBC, ITV, Sky, CBS, TF1, Discovery Channel and more, we have direct experience of creating professional quality productions.

If you have any questions about how we work or want to know what our architectural photography rates are, please email us, visit our FAQ page, or phone us on 01273 921991. Our HQ is in Lewes, East Sussex in the UK, about an hour from London, but we will travel wherever necessary to help you capture your building in the most impressive way.
